What I love about the article is it applauds women for celebrating themselves, who they are and their incredible accomplishments. This couldn’t be more dead on to my message and why I shoot boudoir. I love women when women book a shoot with me for themselves. Yes, often they give it as a gift to a loved one…but really it’s for them first.

The first client that was featured was Maria. Maria and I clicked instantly. I can see Maria blossoming into a strong, independent woman every day. Her strength and determination is something we all reach for.

Here is what Maria experienced with me in her own words:

I had received a partial gift certificate for Jen Rozenbaum from Jenerations and my initial thought was – what in hell? Why would I ever do a boudoir photoshoot – my body is far from perfect, I don’t have that confidence to do this, I don’t even have anyone to give the pictures too. I thought it was such a waste, but I decided to contact Jen and see what it was about at least. The more I talked to her and her assistant Diana, the more I realized that I did have reasons for doing this.

At the time of the shoot, I had lost about 55 pounds over the last 4 years and prior to that, I never really felt beautiful. I never felt sexy. Hell I was never even able to fit into anything from Victoria Secret. I also never actually did anything for me. I usually always put others first, even if it wound up hurting me. So like I said – I found my reasons.

Jen and Diana also made me realize that doing a boudoir shoot for yourself is probably the best gift you can give yourself. It’s about embracing what you have, not your flaws. It’s about being elegantly feminine and classy and incredible sexy.

I had made my experience a journey to find me – the true me. To find what was hidden for so long. In the end of all of it – I felt strong and sexy. I felt like a woman. I’m not saying I completely changed my life or lifestyle around, but I am standing a little bit taller with a little more confidence of who I am. And at this point, I’ve lost a little more than 70 pounds total and I’ve already told Jen that when I get to my goal, I’m doing another shoot.

One of the segments that we spoke about was stylized shoots. This is when photographers come up with a concept, stylize it and shoot it. We do this for fun of course, but in addition we do it to flex our creative muscles and to push ourselves to step outside our comfort zones.

I shot a live stylized shoot on creativeLIVE. The shoot was based on the theme of smoke. I have to thank my cL audience member Lauren for the idea. It is a killer idea – the ONLY problem is, we couldn’t actually smoke in the studio we were in. So – enter some fabric and creativity and we used smoke as the inspiration. (Yeah, ok we also busted out a smoke machine which was surprisingly a TON of fun!)

Thank you to Nikoma (The best makeup/hair artist in Seattle!) and Sarah (the most amazing model!) for making our vision come true!

I can’t think of anyone more fearless than Ms. C. She is a photographer. For a photographer, getting in front of the camera facing a fear in itself. Ms. C didn’t let it stop her. I love that about her.

While she was getting her hair and makeup done, we got to chatting about how luxurious her hair  is. So long and thick, the envy of many.  Then Ms. C told us her plans for after her shoot. She was leaving the shoot and then heading to get her hair cut so she could donate it to Locks of Love. She became my instant hero. Not only was she doing one fearless thing that day, but two! What an inspiration.

The most incredible part about Ms. C, she is just as beautiful with short hair…but even more gorgeous in her heart. Thanks for letting us share your photos and your story – we love you!

I discovered this beautiful location in Brooklyn, NY. I was very intrigued by the details of this apartment. The gorgeous antiques mixed with soft, warm light. To shoot there was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.This year, I would love to break away from the studio a bit more. Try new places, and not just with models when I shoot for myself, but with clients too. How amazing would it be to scout out a new location and have a totally original shoot that expresses who you are as a woman? I can’t wait to discover more locations around the NY area this year. If there is somewhere you want to shoot – let me know! I can’t wait to see what we can create together.

Before I leave, I wanted to share with you a few more photos I took back in December. This was a concept shoot I did for myself. Part of the reason I picked this location was the beautiful windows in the front and back of the space. I love big windows. In fact, the home I just moved to has window seats in all the bedrooms. I just adore sitting on the seat and soaking up the sunlight that pours through. Here’s to hoping my windows won’t be covered with 40″ of snow 48 hours from now!

When I styled this shoot, I fell in LOVE with this skirt. I got it from Anthropologie and found it hard not to keep it for myself! I loved the color and the airiness of it. I think it works perfectly with Anelisa’s skin tone.

In these shots, I used the mirror to add some texture and interest to the photos. I love being able to add as much interest as I can in camera, so it’s less editing later and more original.

I love working with “real women” to show them how gorgeous they are. That is at the core of what I do. I help women break those ugly lies that they tell themselves. You know the ones I mean, right? “I’m not sexy”, “I could never do that!”, “I need to lose 5 lbs”. Whatever it may be – we all tell ourselves lies, and even worse…we start to believe them! My job is to uncover the truths of women. To show them they are sexy, as is! To build their confidence and of course to change their perspectives.

Because of this, I never really work with models. I decided to fearlessly change my mind in December. See, I was getting bored. Boredom is the kiss of death for us creative types. I needed a challenge and a way to flex my creative muscles. So I decided to design my own shoot start to finish. I found an incredible location, a fun model and I planned the wardrobe myself. I grabbed Diana, my makeup artist and Toni, my hairdresser and off we were to play.

This type of shoot benefits both me and my clients. It helps me learn, grow and get “unbored”. It freshens my outlook and my mind. It’s great for you too, because you can see my vision and maybe even apply it to a shoot for you! This was not done in my studio. My New Year’s resolution is to shoot more for me and push the bounderies. AND to get out of the studio. How amazing would a should be customized for you at a location we choose together? (Just a hint of what is coming for 2013!)

I am going to break up the photos I took into a few blog posts, and today I want to share the black and whites with you. Thank you to Anelisa who did an amazing job modeling. She is gorgeous, sweet and I can’t wait to work with her again.

On that note, I want to end the year with Ms. L. She is fearlessly feminine. In her session we embraced the many sides of her that make her the woman she is. She is soft and pretty. She is sexy and seductive, and she is a kick-ass boxer. Like most fearlessly feminine women, Ms. L plays many roles, and I think we captured all three of these quite perfectly.

Ms. L – you were amazing to work with. I love your awesomely laid back persona combined with your go get ‘em attitude. I relate to you in that way and truly admire you and your womanhood.

I hope you all have safe and happy holidays. Thank you for making 2012 an amazing one. Cheers to 2013 being the best yet for all of us!
