I’ve also been very busy preparing for an event called “After Dark“. It is an educational event for photographers that happens about 3 times a year. When After Dark approached me about mentoring there, I was so thrilled. I LOVE teaching and meeting new people so I jumped on the opportunity.

To say I was blown away by the talent and the creativity would be the understatement of the year. The mentors and the attendees were all just so inspiring and the images they are putting out are incredible.

Although I didn’t get a chance to shoot too much, I wanted to share a few quick images that I did capture. I actually brought about 15 attendees to my room with the model to have a little fun and show what a real hotel session might be like. This is what we got!

Next I will be working on my night time out door images…here is a little sneak peek of that:

This Ballet Beauty is gorgeous. She has a wonderful personality, a warm open heart and my favorite thing of all – confidence!!! She LOVES to be in front of the camera which I both am envious of and admire at the same time. She has every reason to want to be in front of the camera…she is HOT!!

And there it was…

A small little innocent message from Lindsay Adler on my facebook wall that read, “Hey! Up for a shoot next week?”.

If you do not know who Lindsay Adler is, let me explain. Lindsay is a fashion and portrait photographer who in layman’s terms, kicks some serious ass. She’s not only a talented photographer, but I’m constantly blown away by her ability to come up with new ideas, be creative and top herself shoot after shoot. Lindsay is taking the industry by storm.

When I read the message, my first reaction was HECK YEAH! Then about 10 seconds later when I realized Lindsay was actually going to SEE the images that I took, well, that’s when the butterflies kicked in. {Shooting another photographer ALWAYS adds more pressure – shooting a GREAT photographer is a TON of pressure.}

I rolled over and woke up my husband and said “Babe, Listen to this…. I think Lindsay asked me to shoot her”. He said “You think?” And I said..”Well Yeah, I guess she did.” That was the last time we were allowed to speak about Lindsay for the whole week. Anytime my husband asked me, “So what are you going to do with Lindsay, How are you going to shoot her?” I simply told him “I do not want to talk about it.” It was a forbidden topic in our house. I knew If I let my nerves get the best of me, the shoot wouldn’t be fun for either of us.

The morning of the shoot, Diana was concerned that I was so quiet and asked me a few times if I was alright. My response was my usual, “I don’t want to talk about it”. But I wasn’t nervous anymore. I was in a zone. I knew that I could do this, and I could rock it. I tried to draw inspiration from Lindsay versus being nervous about her shoot. After all, we are both just women looking to have a fun day and make awesome images.

I have to say – we DID have a fun day. I mean a REALLY fun day. We played with different looks, poses, props. We pigged out on lunch, laughed about how silly boys are and ate a whole bunch of lollipops. {Oh and we also made awesome images in the process.}

Lindsay is gorgeous! She was eager to try anything I suggested and any look Diana and Tara wanted to try on her. I can’t wait to shoot her again!!

First, you might have noticed we removed the word “Boudoir” from our logo. Fear not. We are still shooting boudoir and LOVING it!! I spent 4 days last month in Vegas at the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) conference. I spent a great amount of time talking to and learning from other photographers. It occurred to me there that the word boudoir might scare some wonderful women away, and there is a good chance it doesn’t completely encompass what I do.

Here is what I am.

I am THE Woman’s Photographer.

I don’t want to just shoot you in undies. I think nudes are fabulous, I think clothes are fabulous, I think shooting you with your lover is amazing. Do you want a portrait with your best friend, or your sister…awesome! Do you want to do a boudoir shoot – and your best friend does too, but at the end we take some photos of you guys together in jeans and T-shirts? You got it!

I am a boudoir Photographer.
I am a glamour Photographer.

I am fashion influenced and I will make you look like you just stepped out of a magazine.
I can make your visions come true.

I work with ALL women and truly believe all women are beautiful and complex in a way that is extraordinary.

I AM THE Woman’s Photographer.

They came last week to tape a shoot at our boudoir studio in Long Island City. It was a blast. If you have yet to see the piece you MUST see it. It was fantasic!! HERE is a link!

Lisa was our amazing client that day. She walked in looking adorable!

Of course Diana and Tara worked their magic on her.

We started with a soft, pretty look. Tara put extensions in her hair and curled it up. Diana started with some softer makeup to match the look.

Next we went with hair up and a little bit of a darker look on the eyes.

Last we went with a more edgy look. Tara took the extensions out and straightened her hair. Diana went super dark on her eyes and broke out the red lips (love!).

Thank you for such a fun experience Good Morning America!!!

Diana and Tara and Lisa – you guys were so amazing and I am so glad I had this experience with you.

Ms. M has the most gorgeous skin and eyes. The second I saw her, I told Diana (my makeup artist) that I wanted something dark and bold on her.

Then I broke out the lace. I LOVE me some lace. How hot is this blindfold?? I wish I could wear it around during the day lol!!I love when photos have a film quality to them. I think these B&W’s tell a sexy little story.Ms. M’s boyfriend loves her tattoo – so we made sure to incorporate it in to the photos. I’ve been having fun experimenting with different areas of the building. I took Ms. M to the stairwell for these. 

Thanks for letting me play Ms. M! I had a blast with you – and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you and your career.

On January 11th, I was fortunate enough to be invited to the home of Natalie Licini Photography. Her studio is a gorgeous mansion on Staten Island named Casa Belvedere. Natalie organized a wonder event called the Tri-age. The tri-age was open to photographers of all skill levels. The point of the day was to learn new and awesome photography skills. Learn from the instructors and of course, learn from each other.

I taught the boudoir section, Natalie taught the wedding/family section, and the awesome Neil Van Niekerk taught the off-camera flash section. I asked Neil for some advice before teaching – since he is much more well versed in that area. His advice? Don’t let them see you sweat.

Good advice Neil – thanks…except I didn’t sweat AT ALL!! In fact, I LOVED it!! After the event, I went running home to my husband and exclaimed: “Babe, I know what else I want to be when I grow up – a TEACHER!!”.

I truly want to thank you all who came, who listened to me – and hopefully learned from me as well. I appreciate the love notes you all sent me after the tri-age, and I hope you all keep in touch and rock on with your bad selves. I also hope you will join me for future learning experiences.

Today, I am honored to share some photos that the attendees captured at the tri-age. Please make sure you leave them some love! Many of them attempted boudoir for the first time, and really rocked it!

These first photos were captured by Jessica Crespo. I love the moodiness of the BW post processing and how she used the mirror to create a really unique image. Great job Jessica, especially when there were about 30 people in the room!!

This image is the work of Michelle Khordos. What a unique angle!! This proves the point that not only do you have to move around your subject – but you can also flip the images in post processing for a different view! Awesome Michelle!

The next three images are by Feuza as well. My favorite is the black and white. The way you use the light and shadows is very creative and appealing. I also enjoy that it has a sort of film quality to it.

My man Tato Arent. He has been a great supporter of mine on FB and I was so happy to finally meet him in person. He didn’t feel so hot that day – but you would never know by his images. They are smoking! I love the one on the right especially. It’s such a voyeuristic moment.

Kathy is showing us another awesome example of using angles and lines to create interest in an image. I love how you can see her eyelashes!

Andrea is having fun showing us a more fine art method of editing. I enjoy how she pulled back on this shot and incorporated the gorgeous window. It looks like a stunning painting.

Michelle Neacy shoots the most gorgeous landscape photography. This is a different type of landscape huh, Michelle? LOL I saw a whole bunch of your images and they were all gorgeous. 

The BW on this image  really makes it Michelle ! I also think it’s so fun that it’s anonymous…and mysterious!

Joe, the image on the right is just really cool. I don’t think the model could have been more than 5’2″ – 5’4″ – but you made her look 8′ tall!!

Tatiana is really telling a story here. Don’t you want to know why she is there? What she is doing? I do!! I love the viewpoint and the processing.Noa, I especially like the image of Nicole on the floor. The colors and the pose work perfectly for her. Great job! 

One of the things that I thought was most interesting about these images, and all of those I saw on Facebook was the way everyone saw the same model, the same poses, so differently. It truly shows that no one can be you! Carry on with your YOUniqueness everyone!!!

Last year I decided I really wanted to have my own boudoir photos taken, to experience what it was like in front of the lens. I reached out to a photographer I had heard of in Southern NJ named Dawn. Dawn is the force behind Glamour Bitch Photography. When I first reached out – as you can imagine, she was a little worried that maybe my intentions weren’t genuine. I reassured her that I really just wanted to have a fun time and be a client for change. I wanted a real boudoir experience. So she agreed.

Well – we hit it off! We instantly became friends. She had candy waiting for me when I got there (does it get better than that?)! We laughed hysterically at all the similarities between us. Not only did we have a great time at the shoot, but Dawn decided to also come to ME for a shoot. Woo Hoo!!

Thank you for the amazing experience, and the beautiful photos Dawn! You are a beautiful person inside and out. I am so glad we are friends and I hope our friendship and businesses continue to grow – and that we will always be there to support each other through all the madness!

One side note….

Having my own boudoir session done was so fun, and exciting…and yes..I stressed about my body, and what to wear and the night before I felt like running from the whole idea for about 3 minutes.

I am a woman. I have body issues – I have had 2 children…I have cellulite and scars. I am not perfect.

This experience was not just to have photos taken – but to know what my clients go through and what their feelings are leading up to the shoot.

I now have a MUCH better understanding of it from the clients side. I know sometimes it is hard to step out of the comfort zone. I know because I did it, and I am doing it today again by posting the images!! But I have to tell you – I can’t WAIT to do it again. What an empowering, fun, sexy day!!!! Ladies – trust me, I can now tell you from both sides of the camera how awesome and life changing boudoir can be!!!
